Jonathan Safran Foer’s new book is insane. Entitled “Tree of Codes,” it is a collection of die-cut pages from his favorite book, Bruno Schulz’s “The Street of Crocodiles.” Made as an exploration of “the pages’ physical relationship to one another” and the die-cut technique, Foer attempts to create a meaningful narrative with an existing text. Printers didn’t want to touch it, saying “the book you want to make just cannot be made.” Until, of course a Belgian printer said Challenge Accepted, and this was made. IF ONLY I HAD $40 TO SPARE.
